The original email is copied without the attachments, and the original with the attachments is sent to Trash, so the attachments can be recovered if not already detached and saved. The attachments are not saved as such - you have to do this yourself before or after - and there is no link in the surviving copy of the email to the saved attachments, of course, as the saving etc is done manually and separately. If you are sure that you've got this issue covered, then this add-on is excellent. If you need those links, then it falls a little short unless you have a workaround in mind.
