Overview

Consistency Checker helps you to improve your documents and to make the best impression with your text. When working with multiple authors and editors, inconsistencies can creep in. If you want to get bid documents, articles, proposals or reports accepted then quality and consistency make a difference. Consistency Checker doesn't spend time on spelling or grammar. Instead, it's intended for long or formal documents where consistency is hard to maintain. It finds mistakes that other checkers can't find, such as inconsistent hyphenation (e.g. ‘part time’ and ‘part-time’) and spelling (e.g. ‘color’ and ‘colour’). It also finds numerals in the middle of sentences, and abbreviations that appear in two different forms. It's the fastest way to help ensure that reports, articles, proposals, contracts and other multi-author documents are the the best they can be.

This is a really great addition to my Proofreading tool-kit. Most tools miss this kind of thing and having to do consistency checking manually was always so boring. Thanks to the Devs on this one!

Data quality assurance: The principal investigator (PI) provided training for the data collectors on how to gather relevant data by describing the objectives and significance of the study. The investigators oversaw the data collectors and reviewed the completeness of the tools at the end of each data collection day. The instruments found to be incomplete were discarded, and the data collectors were also reoriented to support respondents in need of clarification. Additionally, a pretest was done on 5% of the estimated sample size (112) to check the clarity of the tools and the length of time to complete the questionnaires. The participants for the pre-test were selected from three retail outlets and excluded from the actual study.

Ironically, the performance of this tool is not very consistent. It picked up on a few consistency errors, but it failed to spot many others. I put in loads of inconsistencies in my doc and it passed with flying colours. I used spelled out numbers and digits. I used acronyms in lower case and again in upper case. I use inconsistent compounds such as basket ball and basket ball. None of these were picked up on by consistency checker. It's probably better than nothing, but you can't rely on it to spot a lot of inconsistencies. You'll still have to be vigilant and manually scan your document yourself. It's a pity, because it would be a really handy tool if it worked properly.

This tool is similar to a tool used by editors. If you spelled a word differently in two places (e.g. colour vs. color -- both correct, depending on whether you're following Canadian or American spelling), this tool will find the spelling variations. It finds common typos, too. You need to know what to do with the other information that Consistency Checker flags. To get the most out of this tool, you may need to consult a style guide and find out how to use hyphens, for example. You may need to look up the rules for abbreviations and numbers in sentences. The tool is designed to spot certain inconsistencies, but it's up to you to fix them. Do you want to learn what it means to write consistently? Consistency Checker can get you started. And it'll save you time if you need to identify inconsistencies in long documents.

This is the *best* add-on anyone can get for Google Docs. It checks the consistency of your spelling. Do you use "add-on" and use "addon" later in the document? Professional editors the world over use this tool, and I can tell you it works beautifully.

Works well enough. For some reason, it called out "T-The" and "T the." First example was "the" being stuttered, the second example was actually "CheapesT THEre." So it can't really read. Would love it if the addon checked for verb shifts as well.

The original app appears to have been replaced with an advertisement for another product. it made no suggestions; it just displayed a flashing ad as I waited 5 minutes for a response.

Helpful, but it would be better if you could select which option was right from within the app menu, instead of having to search through the document for each instance. I work with very long documents, so it's very annoying.

This program does a pretty good job with those elements it is programmed to check. I used it first on a 3,500 word short story and then an 85,000 word novel. It found nothing to report of the short story because it was clean. On the novel it found some hidden errors and questioned other usage. The results were pleasing. Utilizing the search option within the word processor, each item it identified was located. This should be a definite addition for writers serious about trying to publish the cleanest manuscript possible. It will be even better as other style elements are programmed in.
