Overview
Learn languages from what you actually read.

Most language apps teach a fixed course. With Docs Paragraph Translate, the course is your own documents. Open any Google Docs™ file, or paste an article, song lyrics, a recipe or a work email, and learn every word you meet without leaving the page.

HOW IT WORKS
1. Select a word, a sentence or a whole paragraph.
2. Understand it: see the translation, the meaning, example sentences and the pronunciation.
3. Save the word with one click.
4. Review it later, right when you are about to forget it.

WHAT YOU GET
• Translate any selection into your own language. The translation appears as tappable words, so you can look up words in either direction.
• Dictionary for single words and phrases: meanings, example sentences from real usage, and audio pronunciation. Romanization (romaji, pinyin and more) for languages that need it.
• "My words": your personal word list with smart spaced-repetition review (FSRS, the same family of scheduling used by modern flashcard apps). Exercises include meaning, listening, typing and speaking practice, with sound cues and progress.
• "In this document": see which of your saved words appear in the document you have open, jump to them, and highlight them.
• AI explanations: ask why a sentence is built the way it is, or what a word really means in context.
• Conversation practice: chat with an AI partner in the language you are learning. Every word in the chat can be tapped and looked up.
• Share word lists: insert your vocabulary as a table, and anyone who opens it with the add-on can add those words to their own list.
• Optional email reminders when you have words due for review (you turn them on yourself).
• The interface comes in 20 languages.

GOOD FOR
• Adults who need to read real documents in another language: work, research, books, news.
• Students and teachers using Google Workspace™ for Education: assign a reading in Google Docs™ and let students look up, save and review new words right in it.
• Anyone learning alongside an app like Duolingo who wants to understand the things they actually read.

FREE AND PRO
You can start for free with daily limits for lookups, AI explanations, audio and conversation. Pro raises those limits.

PRIVACY
Your saved words live in your own Google account. Selected text is sent to translation, dictionary and AI services only when you ask for a translation, a lookup, audio or an explanation.

Your documents are the textbook. Read anything in Google Docs™. Learn every word you meet.

It was a simple translator and I liked it, but it stopped working. The start button is not showing anymore, I tried to re-install multiple time, but no luck. I also tried to get some support, but it's inexistant.

It was a very helpful tool for me but as of recent, it stopped working. Hopefully the developers can find a way to fix it

Works great! It translates highlighted text and even gives you synonyms for single word translations. And as bonus, it's actually free. More settings would be helpful and a hotkey would be nice, but otherwise i've had no issues.

It's great EXCEPT that it keeps changing the language by itself. I get "s'il te plait" after I just set it back to English, and I have to jump through all the hoops to change it again. Not fun. (I translated it into English and he said: Let me translate it again, it's so embarrassing. --Google Translate)

The quality of translation has deteriorated significantly during the last month. Moreover, It changes quotes occasionally and doesn't allow setting any preferences. Before this, it was almost perfect.

It backs! What I like about this plugin is the easy-to-use UI and the edit box that they offer, so I can proof read in case the word is incorrect or grammatically wrong.

It does translate. It does not retain formatting, so you will have to redo all your formatting every time.
