It works tolerably well, but it has outright bugs and I stick with it only because I have a big investment in my EndNote database. First, it does weird things to formatting, like removing bold fonts from paragraphs that happen to have a citation. Second, it gets stuck fairly often and the only way to get it going again is to clear the browser's cache and cookies. Third (and this is a tiny detail), it insists that it wants to add the header "Reference List" in its own format. Finally, another shortcoming is that if one converts a document from Google Docs to Word, all citations are lost. Overall disappointing.

This application makes it easier to focus on the writing. With just a few clicks, the citing and the reference page is created for me from my library. It has some hiccups though. The extension at times simply does not display. I restart the computer and I change the web browser. Yet, I cannot pinpoint the reason for the hiccups. The hiccups interfere with the writing process.

The extension works well for citations, however is pretty limited and has a number of issues: - It removes formatting (italics, colour) near references - It can be quite slow - It is prone to errors with no explanation why - It is not as versatile as the CWYW functionality in Word Specifically, if you insert a page break in the document, the tool will error and the reference list will not appear at all (though the citation numbers update). There is also no clear way to report issues to the developers for an app that clearly needs user feedback.

I bought the latest Endnote 21, thinking I would be able to use Cite While You Write on Google Doc. 1. My references would randomly disappear from my reference list. 2. Certain in-text citations were created but could not be automatically generated in the reference list. 3. If you have phrases italicized they will be undone. I don't know why. 4. You cannot add any special symbols such as "e.g." or "c.f." before the in-text citations. The plug-in will crash and re-do your citations. If you format them manually, the existing entries will disappear from your reference list. 5. Occasionally the plug-in won't load at all. Extremely buggy and inconsistent.

It messed up my citation order so I had to redo my citations. Also, suddenly froze and showing only white screen. Terrible experience...

Pretty excited to have my endnote references brought to docs (at long last!). Yay for collaboration! Some of the styles need a bit of work as they don't match the spec - probably teething problems for the new platform - but that kind of thing should be caught by the QA team... I think my favourite bit is that if you click a citation it opens endnotes web app and lets to add it to your library.
