The Goal Seek add-on for Google Sheetsᵀᴹ enables users to calculate the required value of a cell to achieve a desired formula value in another cell.

Overview
If you know the result you need from a formula, you can use the Goal Seek add-on to find the missing value needed to achieve it.
You can use the add-on to conduct break-even analysis, or determine subcomponent targets when modeling future outcomes. You can also modify parameters, like max iterations, tolerance and max execution time that Goal Seek uses to determine a solution or load previous calculations.

There are three components to configure:
- the target value
- the changing cell (where the formula is)
- the output value to achieve

Here are my main gripes with the current Goal Seek add-on in Google Sheets, especially as someone with an investing background who’s used to Excel and likes minimizing clicks: 1. It doesn’t have a keyboard shortcut. In Excel I can hit Alt + A, W, G and go. In Sheets I have to open the add-on menu every time. That kills flow and adds friction. 2. It doesn’t auto-populate. In Excel the Goal Seek dialog auto-populates information based on the cells you're on or click into. In Sheets I have to re-enter everything every time. 3. It needs to work reliably. The current version often fails or doesn’t converge - especially if-based logic like SUMIFS - which makes it hard to trust. Bonus gripe (minor): I also don't like that it pops up in the right hand side and isn't movable like in Excel. In case helpful, ended up doing more searching and found another Goal Seek Chrome extension that better mimics Excel. It's on the Chrome Extension store - not Google Workspace Marketplace. It's called SheetWhiz.

doesnt work, this is a basic function i would argue for any spread sheet, given how aggressively google keeps pushing sheets and its office solution its sad to see the solve provided is so half baked. buying a licence from the enemy thanks to my experience with this add on.

This works very well, as others have said, if you actually read the directions and actually follow them. I had it up and running and doing exactly what I needed in just a few minutes. It is a little slow in starting up, and it would be nicer if this was a formula rather than a fill-in form. Solving is not super speedy but for the scope of what's here (basically single slack variable unconstrained optimization) it is certainly fast enough. This is a decent add-on that could be improved but nevertheless does exactly what it is advertised to do. If you're having trouble, read the directions next time.

Absolutely useless, embarrassing that this would even be made available to the public. Use Excel.
