Overview
Guitar Chord Tools is a Google Docs Add-on that helps with editing plain text chord sheets like can be found on many internet sites.

It's great that we can find chords and tablature so easily for so many of our favorite songs these days. But too often the formatting on someone else's web site isn't quite the way you would have done it. Or perhaps what they said was a Bb, you can tell was really a Gm7. And who knows if that website will even be there tomorrow? So it's nice to have a copy of your own stored in Google Docs. Then you know you'll always have access, plus you can make your own corrections and annotations and format it exactly how you like, or even share it with the band to edit collaboratively.

But Google Docs lacks some of the great features that the tablature websites have, like automatically highlighting the chord names in a different color, and changing the key of all the chords with one click. This Add-on brings those features to Google Docs.

Main features include:
* Automatic contextual chord name detection (Examples. C, G,  Am7,  F#maj7, E/F#, Gbmaj7b5, etc)
* Color chord highlighting, with selectable color
* Muscial key transposition
* Choose flats or sharps for enharmonic equivalents
* Optionally use Unicode ‘♯’ and ‘♭’ symbols for sharps and flats
* Apply chord highlighting and key changes to entire document or just the portion selected

Hope you enjoy!

Permissions Required:
* View and manage documents that this application has been installed in
   -- Required to make edits to the doc you are looking at.
* View and manage data associated with the application
   -- This is for saving preferences (it remembers your last used highlight color for example).
* Allow this application to run when you are not present
   -- I'm not sure about this one. Supposedly this has to do with OAuth token refreshing that Google does for all Add-ons. Don't worry, my code definitely does not go highlighting chords and transposing your music while you aren't looking!

I'm glad this plugin exists! I'm not sure if it will be that useful for me personally though. I like to write minor chords in lower case (em) but this plugin only recognizes chords written with uppercase letters (Em). It would be nice if there were a way to update the dictionary of chords/formats that the plugin recognizes, or maybe a shortcut to flag any text as a chord. No idea how hard that would be, but thanks for putting this plugin out there.

This is a great app but now I'm also getting the error message "Sign in with Google temporarily disabled for this app." Hey Bill AxeManBaxMan it's December 2020 and I'm still getting the error message. Now I'm getting a new error message. Now it says Google is blocking the app because it tried to access sensitive account info. At least it's something new. Again, can I help in any way?

This is great! I'm going to use this All The Time! I especially like the option for flats/sharps. I wasn't sure about the recognized chord formatting for minor chords, and I kind of stumped it at first, trying "c mi," then "cm," then eventually "Cm." Could there be some examples of chord formats in the tutorial? (or did I miss it?) Not being a dev, I don't know what's hard or easy to code, but it would be cool if this could: 1) have a smart Verse/Chorus navigation tool to jump around the song 2) have the option to substitute all X chords for Y chords 3) why lingo of C -> C instead of "capo up ___ frets" or "transpose up ____ 1/2 steps"? Yay for this! Fantastic tool.

This app was a life changer for creating song sheets for my church. As of 12-19-2020 though, I can't access the Add-On. It is telling me that there is a new script, and that Google is blocking access due to the add-on trying to access sensitive information. Bummer :(

Would be great if it supported conversion from nashville numbering e.g. 1 - 6m - 5 to a given key
