HAL (Human Accountability Layer) helps teams add clear human accountability markers to Google Docs™ content, so readers can see which parts of a document were written, reviewed, or accepted by a human.

HAL is designed for organizations that use AI-assisted drafting but still need a clear record of human responsibility. Instead of trying to detect whether content was created by AI, HAL focuses on accountability: it lets users explicitly mark selected text as Human-Framed or Human-Reviewed.

With HAL, authors and reviewers can select passages in a Google Doc™ and apply accountability labels that show whether the content was originally framed by a human or reviewed and accepted by a human. HAL can also generate an accountability summary that shows document coverage, including the percentage of content marked as Human-Framed, Human-Reviewed, or Unclaimed.
