Overview
Numbered headings for Google Docs: 1, 1.1, 1.1.1, legal style with (a) and (i), outline (I. A. 1.), chapters, or your own pattern. Built for contracts, policies, theses, specifications and manuals.

RENUMBER SAFELY, AS OFTEN AS YOU LIKE
• Move, add or delete sections and press Update numbering: every number is recalculated.
• Running it twice never doubles the numbers, and headings that start with their own number, like "2026 Budget", are left alone.
• Already have typed numbers ("2.1 Scope")? It spots them and can replace them.
• Remove all numbering again in one click.
• A preview shows the result before anything changes.

STYLES FOR REAL DOCUMENTS
• Decimal: 1 · 1.1 · 1.1.1
• Legal: 1. · 1.1 · (a) · (i)
• Outline: I. · A. · 1. · a. · i.
• Chapters: Chapter 1 · 1.1
• Custom: your own pattern per level, like "Article %1" or "Schedule %1", in numbers, letters or roman numerals
• Choose which heading levels to number, and keep headings like Contents, Abstract and References unnumbered.

CROSS-REFERENCES THAT KEEP UP Insert "clause 3.2(a)" or "section 4 Method" anywhere, linked to the heading. When the numbering changes, every reference changes with it. References to a heading that's been deleted are highlighted and listed so nothing slips through.

CONTENTS AND OUTLINE
• Insert a linked contents list that refreshes every time you renumber, with the depth you choose.
• The sidebar outline jumps to any heading and points out problems, such as a Heading 3 with no Heading 2 above it.
• Works with document tabs: number the tab you're in, or every tab at once.
• Numbers are ordinary text, so they appear in Google's own outline and table of contents, and in PDF and Word exports.

PLANS
• Free: decimal numbering, renumber and remove, outline and contents list.
• Pro, $4 a month or $29 a year: legal, outline, chapter and custom styles, every tab at once, and cross-references.
• Team, $3 a person a month or $24 a year, from 3 people: Pro for everyone, with colleagues at your work email domain joining automatically. Upgrading happens in the sidebar and unlocks within seconds. Cancel whenever you like from "Manage subscription".

PRIVACY
• It only opens the document you're using it in, never your other files, Gmail or Drive.
• Your document never leaves Google. It's processed by Google Apps Script.
• To check your plan it sends only your Google account's email address to our licence server.
