Paste a column of IBANs. Get the bank behind each one.

Built for the moment before a payment run, when supplier bank details have to be right and checking them one at a time is not an option.

TWO WAYS TO USE IT

Open the sidebar, sign in with your email and password, select the column of IBANs and click Resolve. The answers are written beside them as plain text - Bank, BIC, City, Country. If those cells already hold something, the add-on says so and asks where to put the answers instead of overwriting your work.

Or use the formulas, which take your API key as the second argument:

=IBAN_BANK(A2:A500, $B$1) SPAR NORD BANK A/S
=IBAN_BIC(A2:A500, $B$1) SPNODK22XXX
=IBAN_VALID(A2:A500, $B$1) TRUE
=IBAN_COUNTRY(A2:A500, $B$1) Denmark
=IBAN_CITY(A2:A500, $B$1) AALBORG

If your spreadsheet separates arguments with a semicolon, as many European locales do, write =IBAN_BANK(A2:A500; $B$1) instead.

WHY NOT JUST VALIDATE?

Anyone can check an IBAN's checksum - it is an open algorithm. The harder part
is turning the national bank code inside the IBAN into a named institution,
and that needs reference data. This add-on carries bank data for 60+ countries,
compiled from national sources: the Deutsche Bundesbank Bankleitzahlen file,
Oesterreichische Nationalbank, the National Bank of Ukraine, Banka Slovenije,
Banco de España, Národná banka Slovenska, Banco Central do Brasil, Bits AS for
Norway, Finanssiala for Finland, the Central Bank of Cyprus, and the
GLEIF/SWIFT BIC-to-LEI mapping.

Where a bank is not in our data, the cell says so rather than coming back blank. An honest gap is more useful than a confident guess when the answer is
going on a transfer form.

PASS A RANGE, NOT A CELL

=IBAN_BANK(A2:A500, $B$1) is one call that resolves the whole column. Dragging =IBAN_BANK(A2, $B$1) down 500 rows works too, but it is 500 separate calls and much slower. Results are cached, so recalculating or reopening the file is instant. The sidebar writes plain text, which never recalculates at all.

WHAT IT CAN SEE

Three permissions, and nothing beyond them: calling our lookup API, reading and writing the spreadsheet you have open, and showing the sidebar. It cannot reach your other files, your Drive, or your email - the spreadsheet permission is limited to the document the add-on is open in.

The only thing that leaves your sheet is the IBAN being looked up. Your password is used once to sign in and never stored.

Not affiliated with any bank. Bank reference data is compiled from the national registers listed above and is accurate to the best of those sources, but it is not a certified payment record - for a payment that must not fail, confirm with the recipient or their bank.
