Import Cleaner for Xero™ knows what a Xero file™ is. It works in both directions: it cleans a file exported from Xero™ so Google Sheets™ can sort, filter and total it, and it checks a sheet against Xero's import rules before you upload it, so the upload does not fail halfway through.

Pick the sheet you are about to import into Xero™ and the add-on checks it against Xero's rules for that file type:
• Contact names that will not match an existing Xero™ contact, so the import quietly creates duplicates
• Required columns missing, and headers spelled differently from Xero's
• Dates Xero™ will not read, dates that read two ways, and dates not in your organisation's format
• Currency symbols, thousands separators and comma decimals in amounts
• Amounts split across two columns, and bank statements with no negative amounts
• Blank cells that import as zero
• Line breaks inside cells, and text read with the wrong encoding
• Values over Xero's field limits

CLEAN A XERO™ EXPORT
Open a Xero™ export in Google Sheets™ and the add-on finds what stops it working:
• Dates stored as text, which will not sort or subtract
• Numbers stored as text, which SUM skips
• Negatives in brackets, and comma decimal separators
• Stray, leading and non-breaking spaces
• A name held in one column
• Total rows inside the data and rows below it

NOTHING AMBIGUOUS IS CHANGED SILENTLY
A date like 06/03/2026 means 6 March in the UK and June 3 in the US. The add-on asks how your Xero™ organisation writes dates, lists every date that could be read either way before anything is written, and shows exactly what each fix will change, cell by cell. A value it cannot read is explained, never rewritten. A guess, such as splitting a name, goes into a new column and leaves the original alone. Every fix can be undone.
