Motorbay looks up Danish vehicles from a formula in Google Sheetsโข. Write =MOTORBAY("AB12345", "make") and the cell shows the make. Give it a column of plates, and one formula fills the rest. Use ; instead of , between arguments if your spreadsheet's locale uses a decimal comma.
Functions
- MOTORBAY(plate, [field]) looks up a license plate. Case, spaces and hyphens don't matter.
- MOTORBAY_VIN(vin, [field]) looks up a VIN.
- MOTORBAY_ID(id, [field]) looks up a Motorbay vehicle id.
Fields include make, model, variant, vin, plate, color, firstregistered, modelyear, totalweight, inspectiondate, inspectionresult, km, kw and co2. Danish names work too. Any field the Motorbay API returns is available as section.field.
Getting started
1. Create a free account at app.motorbay.app and make an API key.
2. Open Extensions, Motorbay, Set API key, paste the key and save. Type a plate in the sidebar to check that the key works.
3. Choose Insert lookup table. It adds a new sheet with a Plate column and columns for make, model, variant, color, first registration and the latest inspection. Paste plates in column A and the rest fills itself.
Your key is saved in the add-on's settings for your own account, not in the spreadsheet. The add-on sends only the plate, VIN or id in your formula, with your key, to api.motorbay.app, and reads nothing else in your account. Answers are cached for up to 6 hours, so repeating a lookup doesn't cost another request.
The data is Motorstyrelsen's public weekly extract of the Danish Motor Register (DMR). It is vehicle data only, with no owner information, and it is updated weekly, not live. Motorbay is not affiliated with Motorstyrelsen.
