Pangkalahatang-ideya
NameGender adds gender to a column of names, email addresses or usernames, and writes the result next to your data.

HOW IT WORKS

Select the column that holds the values and run it from the sidebar. Five columns are written to the right:

  Gender male, female or unknown
Probability how confident the answer is
Sample size how many people the answer is based on
Match type direct, transliterated, approximate or ai
Matched name the name we actually matched

There is also a formula for a quick look: =NAMEGENDER(A2:A500) returns just the gender for a whole range.

WHY THE EXTRA COLUMNS

A bare "female" tells you nothing about whether to trust it. A name matched directly against 40,000 records is not the same as one matched approximately against three. Both are useful; treating them as equal is not. Results below 85% confidence are highlighted so you can review them.

WHAT IT HANDLES

Names outside the Latin alphabet, transliterated spellings, and names whose gender depends on country — Andrea is male in Italy and female in Germany, and you can set the country in the sidebar.

An email column works too. A CRM export often has one when it has no first-name column.

SAFE TO RUN

Undo clears exactly the rows the last run wrote, and nothing else. Rows that already have a result can be skipped, so a large sheet can be processed in parts without spending credits twice.

WHAT YOU NEED

A free NameGender account and an API key, entered once in the sidebar. The free tier is 100 lookups a day and resets daily. Credits you buy stay on your balance until you spend them.

The names in the selected column are sent to the NameGender API to be looked up. Nothing else in the spreadsheet is read or sent.

The add-on is available in English, German, Spanish, French, Portuguese and Turkish.
