Overview
Read Aloud uses text-to-speech (TTS) technology to convert text to audio, allowing you to listen to your documents for proofreading, for reasons of dyslexia or other learning disabilities. Supports 36 languages.

You can activate this addon from the Addon menu inside Google Docs™.  Once activated, a sidebar appears in which you can pick a voice, set the reading speed, and start the speech.

I use this a lot for proofreading and it gets the job done. The interface is a bit clunky, though, and the voice options could really use an overhaul, considering what's out there nowadays. But for a free app that helps me catch little errors or redundancies in my writing, it's serviceable.

it was working for a while. then today, it wouldn't work. i have uninstalled and reinstalled it, so hopefully it will have fixed the issue.... never mind. same issue.

It doesn't allow me to adjust the speed at all. The voices change all the time too. I was using it as an add-on for a Google doc and it didn't work at all.
