For documents where real-time collaboration might not be feasible, for example MS Word and Powerpoint, we find multiple people on our team might be downloading the same assets for editing offline. However, users might download the asset at the same time, and this causes edit conflicts. We propose to use google drive api functionality that will allow a user to ‘lock’ a file temporarily, flagging to other teammates that the document is being edited offline. When the document is unlocked it is a signal that the document is free to edit.
