Overview
This app features basic script formatting functions (such as setting your indents for speakers and dialog) tied into easy to use buttons. Each button will assist you as you switch effortlessly between scenes and action, as well as speakers and dialog. The screenplay formatting tool also includes the basic scene transitions to help save time.

The App will always check your current selection, or cursor location, to decide if you are creating something new, or reformatting something old. If you have text selected, it will adjust the indents of that paragraph to the new format and if the format requires uppercase, it will automatically convert it for you. If you don't, it will ask you what you want to add and insert it directly into the script.

The features the Screenplay Formatter add are; adding Headers, setting Action text, setting a new Speaker, adding Parenthesis to dialog, setting Dialog text, setting New Characters, setting Special Effects, and inserting pre-made transitions.

Nice try. But the key to any decent screen formatter is that you don't have to take your fingers off the keyboard to shuffle a mouse cursor around and click buttons. We need some way to link these formatting functions to key combos, and I haven't been able to find this here. This also seems to lack intelligent defaults: if I type "INT" or "EXT" at the beginning of a new line, hey, I'm writing a slug. A tab or a return after the slugline should be able to decide whether the next line is an action paragraph or a char name. Likewise a tab or return after a char name should define the next line as dialogue or a wryly. And so on... (Well, no - that's basically it.) Is any of this possible within the technical limitations of Google Docs? -- Chris

It works really well for beginners, but now I'm noticing several inconsistencies in the add-on. The two major issues I am experiencing are the inability to make two character's speak at the same time and key-commands. Everything is cursor-based which is incredibly insufficient and inconvenient. But otherwise, it'll allow you to make a basic script look neat and somewhat professional.

Perfect for people who know how to write screenplays and want the formatting to be as easy and fast as possible. This will let you make your headers/transitions/dialogue are consistently aligned left or right on the page simply by pressing one button and typing the text (or vice versa: highlighting text your already typed and then pressing said button). No more screwing around with the top ruler, tabs, etc.

This Add-On is a must if you need to write screenplays collaboratively or online. It is an invaluable tool during my everyday work and I cannot recommend it enough. Of course, it is not as advanced as a specific tool/application such as Final Draft or Celtx, but it gets the job done. Congrats! If ever they provide (1) a Title Page and (2) keyboard shortcuts, it'll work wonders. Google, please provide official support for screenplays and make Screenplay Formatter a part of this process. :)

A wonderful, free add-on that assists you in writing screenplays. It works wonderfully. I have noticed only a couple bugs in about 50 pages of screen writing so far and they were very minor bugs. I do feel like the add-on could be streamlined to make the writing process flow a little better, as it doesn't automatically go to where the cursor should and you have to stop what you're doing and set it but those are tiny complaints. This add-on is very useful and I would recommend.

The Formatter is generally usable for professional or personal projects, it prints well, and is pleasing to read on the screen and paper. ... However the LACK OF KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS is an abysmal point of embarrassment for the creators. Saying that the lack of keyboard shortcuts kills efficiency is putting their industry-standard-importance lightly. If you have all the time in the world and don't need to get thoughts out quickly, the plug in is great. Although you might as well forget formatting with any enjoyment if you are copy & pasting a screenplay from another source (Celtx, PDF, Word, etc).

It's great! However, some keyboard shortcuts would make selecting menu items less tedious.

Pretty much gets the job done as far as formatting is concerned! PRO TIP: type out the entire script first and then just click on the different types to get it formatted
