Shared contacts get synced every few minutes if you are running the shared contacts application in your Google apps domain. 
You can share system groups to have access to the shared contacts from your iPhone and you can even share contacts between different Google Apps domains or with regular Google accounts. 
You can also use our application to manage the Google domain shared contacts directly from the contact manager (Google Apps premier edition only). 
You can specify the read/write permissions for each subscriber of the shared group.
