Overview
Solver and Goal Seek for Google Sheets™. Free, with no limit on the number of cells.
Install it, then open Extensions → Sheet Solver → Open Solver. Click Insert example and you see it work in under a minute.

Does Google Sheets™ have a Solver? Not built in. Sheet Solver adds the one you know from Excel: pick a goal cell, choose Max, Min or a target value, pick the cells it may change, add your limits, and click Solve. The best answer is written straight into your sheet.

Does Google Sheets™ have Goal Seek? Now it does. Choose the formula cell, the value you want, and the input cell to change. Goal Seek finds it in a few tries, usually in seconds, and you can undo with one click. It works on loans, prices, margins, break-even and any other formula.

What people use it for
- Spend a budget where it gives the most: projects, marketing, stock.
- Product mix and production plans: the most profit within machine hours and materials.
- Staff and shift plans: cover every shift at the lowest cost.
- Pick the best team: the highest score within a budget and squad rules, for fantasy cycling, football and other games.
- Homework and courses in linear optimization and what-if analysis.

Your limits, your way
Limits can be ≤, ≥ or =, against a number or a cell. Cells can be whole numbers or yes/no (0 or 1). Each tab keeps its own model, and the model travels with the spreadsheet when you make a copy.

Fast with normal formulas
Sheet Solver reads SUM, SUMPRODUCT, SUMIF and SUMIFS directly, so a model with 300 changing cells solves in under 20 seconds. Other formulas work too; they are measured cell by cell, which takes longer.

Only the spreadsheet you have open
Sheet Solver only gets access to the spreadsheet you are working in, plus permission to show its sidebar. It cannot open your other files, it does not read your email, and your numbers never leave your browser and Google.

Coming from Excel's Solver?
The same three boxes, the same idea: objective cell, changing cells, constraints. If Solver or Goal Seek is not working for you in Google Sheets™ today, try the example first and then copy your own model in.
