Shift Optimizer turns your spreadsheet into a complete shift roster: who works every day and night shift, for weeks at a time.

Unlike calendar templates or AI text generators, it runs a real mathematical optimization solver (mixed-integer programming with HiGHS), so every rule you set is guaranteed:

Minimum rest between shifts (11 or 12 hours, or your own rule)
Maximum consecutive days and consecutive nights
No day shift the morning after a night
Skills (e.g. only RNs can be charge nurse) and each person's availability
Fixed assignments you mark with "f"

If there aren't enough people, you still get a roster, with the unfilled posts named, instead of an unhelpful "no solution".

How it works:

Extensions → Shift Optimizer → Optimize shifts
Insert an example (hospital ward, 3-shift plant, security post, fire station, service desk)
Replace the data with yours and press Optimize roster. A new "Roster" tab appears, colour-coded by day and night shifts.

Up to 60 people, 42 days, 12 shifts and 12 posts per run. Available in English and Spanish.

Privacy: the add-on can only see the spreadsheet it's opened in. Your data is used to compute the roster and then discarded; nothing is stored.
