Overview

The Slack Add-On for Gmail™ helps you move conversations along by bringing context from an email into a Slack channel or direct message. You can add a message and include attachments along with the email as well.

When to send email into Slack:
 - Email chain getting too noisy? Send it into Slack where you can discuss quickly and move forward.
 - Have an idea you want to share with your team? Send it along to a relevant channel with a note about your insights.
 - Need to coordinate a response to a customer question? Flag your teammates in Slack and use the email content to set context.

How the Add-On works:
 - Start by installing the Slack for Gmail™ Add-On.
 - Open any email and click on the Slack icon in the right-hand side of your inbox.
 - Choose the channel or person you’d like to forward the email to inside of Slack.
 - Add a message and include attachments if you’d like.
 - Voilà! The email is forwarded into Slack where anyone in the channel or direct message you shared it to can see the email content and open attachments.

This add‑on used to post Gmail messages in Slack under my own name, which made sense and incredibly helpful (I could edit the post, add more attachments, it made it clear it was manual and not an automated email). Now everything shows as from the “Slack for Gmail Bot,” and I can’t edit or delete those posts rendering this addon much less useful. Please bring back posting as the user!

It generally works BUT: (1) the field to edit the cover message has no formatting toolbar, and the markup rules are different from those in Slack, so realistically, rich formatting is not an option; (2) after a recent update, the resulting messages arrive to Slack attributed to Slackbot (rather than to me as it had been all the way since at least July 2020), so my teammates cannot readily see that it's from me, and I'm no longer able to edit the cover message (which is often necessary due to item 1 above), add more attachments, or delete the message if it has been sent in mistake. Plus loading a list of Slack channels to select from is painfully slow. It used to be a handy feature, but has become much less useful. :(

Uninstalled, reinstalled to try to fix Add-on error. Nope. Also I am offended by the use of the H word in the one-star rating.

Anyone else having issues with a changed behavior. Sending to Slack used to come into Slack "from" the user... and now it's simply "Slack" which is way less useful...
