Overview
UPDATE (April 2025)
Originally, this add-on only supported link unfurling (Smartchips) in Google Docs™. That still works the same, but we’ve added the following additional features:
* Embed images of your Tableau content within Google Docs™ & Google Slides™
* Refresh tableau images within Google Docs™ & Google Slides™
* Link Unfurling (Preview Links) in Google Slides™
This includes a new OAuth scope “drive.file” which allows the add-on to insert/update content within specific docs and slides.

SUMMARY
This add-on allows users to find and embed Tableau content (views and Pulse metrics) within Google Docs™ and Google Slides™. Use the add-on to search for content, or copy and paste a link to your Tableau content within the search bar. The add-on will display a preview of the Tableau content, and let you choose where to insert it.

Since content being inserted into Docs™ and Slides™must be static images, the add-on also provides an option to refresh that content. You can choose to refresh Tableau images individually or all at once.Clicking the image refresh button will write out the results of the job within the doc/slide’s comments, to track which images were refreshed and when. Embedded Images are also hyperlinks, which open the Tableau content within a new browser tab.

The add-on also supports link unfurling within Google Docs™ and Google Slides™. If the add-on detects a Tableau Cloud link, it will unfurl it into a Smart Chip (Google Docs™) or Preview Link (Google Slides™). Link unfurling works for both Tableau views and Pulse Metrics.

HOW IT WORKS
This add-on works by using Tableau's REST API to fetch metadata from your Tableau Cloud or Server environment. In order to authenticate to Tableau and make those REST API calls, please follow the setup guide to create a Tableau Connected App and save the details using the Configuration button at the bottom of the add-on. You will need a Tableau Cloud admin to complete this setup, but once it's finished any licensed Tableau user can use the add-on. The add-on automatically signs into your Tableau environment using the email address of the logged in Google Workspace user, and inherits the existing Tableau site permissions provided to that user. Full details and links are available in the setup guide.

It's the step in the right direction, however, it supposes all dashboards and views are built straight for use in presentations. Most of the dashboards have multiple graphs on one page and in presentations you would want to be selective of those graphs - that feature is missing. Let's say I have a view with 6 different graphs, I would like to have the third graph in the presentation, right now there is no way to do that. It is such a big shame. Without that functionality, many businesses will not be able to rely on this feature without creating very high overhead of maintaining multiple views for this purpose

Dashboards are not that sharp as on tableau cloud, noticeable difference between Tableau embedded dashboard and Google slides elements. If the problem is in resolution can they be in vector format (svg)?

It's a good start, but needs some additional features to be really useful. For example you can crop a an embedded report, but the minute you hit the refresh link it will go back to its original size. There also doesn't appear to be a way to apply filters currently, so there is no way to focus in on a specific customer, date range, etc.
