Overview
TheLaTeXLab Citation Generator is a citation generator and lightweight reference manager built right into Google Docs. Insert in-text citations as you write and automatically build a formatted bibliography - your reference list or Works Cited - at the end of your document. No copy-pasting from other tools, and no separate account to create.

FIND ANY REFERENCE FAST

Add a source by DOI, PubMed ID (PMID), ISBN, or arXiv ID, paste a link that contains one, or paste BibTeX. The add-on verifies each reference against its source and inserts a clean, correctly formatted citation at your cursor.

8 CITATION STYLES

APA 7, MLA 9, Chicago (author-date), Harvard, IEEE, Vancouver, Nature, and AMA. Switch citation styles at any time and your in-text citations and bibliography update together. Numbered styles (IEEE, Vancouver, Nature, AMA) renumber automatically, and Nature and AMA render as superscripts.

A REFERENCE LIBRARY THAT STAYS WITH YOU

Every source you add is saved to a personal reference library stored in your own Google account, available across all your documents - no sign-up and no subscription. Search, tag, and edit your references and reuse them in any document.

IMPORT AND EXPORT

Import .bib (BibTeX), .ris (RIS), .enw (EndNote), and .nbib (PubMed) files, including references exported from tools like Zotero, Mendeley, or EndNote.

Bulk lookup: paste many identifiers at once to add them all.

Export your whole library as BibTeX (.bib) or JSON, and copy BibTeX for any single reference - handy for a LaTeX workflow.

Add references manually when there is no identifier.

BUILT FOR ACADEMIC WRITING

Whether you are writing a research paper, thesis, dissertation, manuscript, or preparing a journal submission, TheLaTeXLab Citation Generator keeps your in-text citations and reference list consistent and submission-ready.

HOW IT WORKS

Open the add-on and click Open Citation Manager.
Paste a DOI, PubMed ID, ISBN, arXiv ID, URL, or BibTeX, click Look up, then Insert at cursor.
Click "Update citations & bibliography" to format every citation and build your reference list.

PRIVACY

The add-on sends only the identifier or URL you look up, and the contents of files you choose to import, to return citation data. The contents of your Google document are never sent anywhere, and your reference library is stored in your own Google account. See our privacy policy for details.

Free to use.

Been using this for my thesis instead of juggling Zotero - way less setup, just paste a DOI and it formats the reference.
