Every quote reports its trading currency, so a multi-currency portfolio can convert between currencies with one more formula instead of a second data source.

WHY NOT THE BUILT-IN FUNCTION OR SCRAPING

The built-in GOOGLEFINANCE() function covers the basics, but many European ETFs return #N/A, cryptocurrency coverage is patchy, mutual funds are hit-or-miss and dividend data does not exist. Scraping Yahoo Finance with IMPORTXML or IMPORTHTML breaks whenever the page changes, and writing your own script against a stock market API means maintaining code and API keys. HISTORICAL DATA

=TFETCHHISTORY() returns a table with date, open, high, low, close, adjusted close and volume — the OHLC data you need for a price chart, a moving average, a drawdown calculation or a quick backtest. Ranges: 1d, 5d, 1mo, 3mo, 6mo, 1y, 2y, 5y, 10y, ytd and max. Intervals: daily (1d), weekly (1wk) and monthly (1mo). Ask for "dividends" instead of "prices" and you get every dividend payment with its date, which makes dividend growth and yield-on-cost calculations straightforward.

SYMBOLS

Data comes from Yahoo Finance, so ticker symbols must match the Yahoo Finance symbol format: AAPL, MSFT, TSLA, SPY, VWCE.DE, BTC-USD. If a symbol has an exchange suffix (.DE for Xetra, .AS for Amsterdam, .L for London, .T for Tokyo, .HK for Hong Kong), copy it exactly; US tickers need no suffix. Not sure? Use the built-in symbol search: open Extensions › TickerFetch › Insert a formula… and type a company or fund name, or paste the ISIN — it finds the matching ticker symbol. You can also look the ticker up on finance.yahoo.com and use the symbol shown there.
