I have used almost every travel planning application I could find that runs on Mac OS, including Wanderlog, Gaia, Sygic, RoadTripper, Guru maps, Tripit, Tripsy, and several AI tools. Each has strengths and weaknesses, and all fell short of my ideal. Travel Mapper is the best I have used, by far. It's easy to use and understandable and intuitive. I can easily save and map a new point of interest while reading an article or website. I can quickly visualize the location of each new point of interest on a map, on the same screen as my lists. Most importantly, it is open, meaning I can import and export. And it's built on a rock-solid platform, Google Sheets, with a very capable Clipper and Web Map UI. Sheets and web mean you can work on it on mobile devices, not just desktop. Sheets enables me to include links associated with a POI, which many programs do not allow. It exports data directly into Google My Maps, a very versatile and powerful program, and you can then download a KML, including clickable links, into Guru when in the field navigating. At $24, it's a real bargain. And the developers are very responsive! I'm impressed

As an avid traveler and planner, I’ve tested a number of itinerary tools including Wanderlog and TripIt. Among them, Travel Mapper is currently the closest match to my needs. Its standout feature is the Staging Area (i.e., activities without dates), which allows me to save places of interest that I haven’t yet slotted into a specific day—this is extremely helpful for flexible planning. However, several limitations prevent it from being a complete solution (listed below in order of importance): Rigid itinerary structure – The software requires the trip to consist of consecutive days, making it impossible to generate itineraries with intentional gaps (e.g., visa appointments on Day 1, actual travel on Days 5–10, with Days 2–4 unplanned). Place limitations – Each "place" must be tied to a physical map location (at least by default), which doesn’t work well for abstract entries like tours or activities, or adding transit such as flight and car rental. Trip overview lacks organization – There’s no way to sort “my trips” by date or archive old trips in the main dashboard. Hotel duplication – If I’m staying at the same hotel for multiple nights, I must manually re-add the hotel to each day’s plan instead of assigning it once. Lack of reusability – Custom Categories, Packing Lists, and To-Do Lists are all tied to individual trips. There’s no way to reuse them across different itineraries. Cruise support – The current templates are designed with land-based travel in mind. A dedicated cruise itinerary template would be highly valuable. Category icons – There’s no way to assign custom icons to user-defined categories, which reduces visual clarity. Despite these drawbacks, I chose to purchase a 1-year subscription to support the product’s development. I have not yet renewed, but I’m hopeful that some of the issues above will be addressed in future updates.

This app has helped me tremendously and made travelling so much more easier. It helps you plan well ahead and the Google map integration is amazing. You can filter on a day and see all your activities plotted on the map. I used this to plan my trip to Japan and got a lot of compliments on how organized the trip was.

I think getting to see all the locations on one map helps me find out the distance between one destination from another. I like how I can maximize the time of the trip and how it automatically find the official websites makes it such a hassle free experience in planning trips. It used to be so stressful for me but getting it organized and sorted in a schedule makes life so much easier and clearer.

Excellent concept for an itinerary app if this is what you are looking for and you want it in Google Sheets/maps. And of course you can share it and use it on multiple devices. Helpful if you understand Sheets (or Excel), as many of the complaints I have seen in the reviews can be easily fixed (e.g. formats). I did an extensive search before finding this and it is the only itinerary app I found that works with Sheets and auto maps to google maps. They seem to be paying attention to feedback and I am sure they will continue to perfect it and add functionality. There are some little inconsequential bugs but for the price of a few bucks a month (or Free), I can wait for them to get those resolved. Awesome app!

I found Travel Mapper quite difficult to use, it felt unnecessarily complicated and not intuitive. It might work for others, but personally, I didn’t find it user-friendly.
