V-Mac is a Google Docs Addon which assists with reading and writing text. Although V-Mac is designed for use by persons with dyslexia and learning disabilities it is also an effective tool for achieving a higher level of reading and writing for many other uses such as language learning and simply reading and writing more efficiently. You can choose to have the text read aloud while you are writing. You can also have complete documents or parts thereof read aloud and words highlighted so that it is easy to follow the text on the screen. This enhances both the understanding of the text content as well as the ability to read text more efficiently. For the younger users this also helps to kickstart decoding the written word. V-Mac includes a wide range of voices in many languages, all from Acapela Group. When you write text, V-Mac can suggest how the current word is completed as well as suggest the next word in the sentence. If a word or part of a word is misspelled, V-Mac can suggest the correct word. The suggested words are shown in a list from which you may click to insert a word into your text. V-Mac supports word suggestion for the languages: Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Faroese, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Icelandic, Italian, Latin, Norwegian Bokmål, Norwegian Nynorsk, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swedish and Turkish. You can configure V-Mac to fit your needs, for example whether V-Mac should provide both reading and writing support, selection of voice and selection of situations where the voice should be used.
