With the motto "Let's Clean the World", environmental protection is part of Lamor Corporation’s DNA. The Finnish company specializes in the heavy industry and marine sectors, offering a range of environmental services related to industrial waste management and water treatment, as well as providing emergency responses to environmental disasters. Lamor’s heavy-duty waste equipment can deal with the by-products created during oil drilling processes, as well as containing, collecting, and safely disposing of oil when spills occur. It aims to be a global player, reaching from the Siberian Tundra to the Amazonian jungle.
Alongside its catalogue of more than 4,000 specialized equipment products, Lamor offers environmental services and solutions to organizations and governments through its network of local hubs and partner companies in more than 100 countries. While it has around 400 full-time employees, Lamor can mobilize thousands more through its partner network when it needs additional resources.
“It's not only a matter of providing the right kit, it's also about giving clients the right concepts and ways to deal with their problems,” says Nico Larsen, Chief Information Officer at Lamor Corporation. "Our philosophy is that whether you’re in Saudi Arabia, the United States or Ecuador, people with local knowledge are best-placed to manage the situation. For us, that means that flexibility and the ability to partner up with local companies are key to delivering our services.”
In 2016, Lamor built and launched Hailer, its own internal workflow management system. Then in 2020 Lamor decided to complement Hailer by switching to Google Workspace as its productivity solution, to provide employees with effective collaborative tools and a centralized, standardized file storage system, in order to leverage the expertise of its widespread, diverse network of professionals, while promoting trust and transparency.
“We’re continually looking to improve our internal communication and help teams to focus on what they do best,” says Larsen. “We knew that Google had made big advances in the online collaboration space, so we switched to Google Workspace.”

The company first explored the idea of digital collaboration in the late 1990s, but was held back by the technological limitations of the time. In 2010, the Deepwater Horizon oil spill put the need for more effective collaboration processes back on the table. “The role we played in the Deepwater Horizon clean-up was one of our biggest achievements, but at the same time, it highlighted a need for more efficient processes," Larsen recalls. "We had 4,000 people involved who were implementing complex operations via phone calls and by emailing spreadsheets back and forth. We thought to ourselves, there has to be a better way to do things.”
Hailer began as an internal project that is now available to other businesses as an all-in-one project management tool. Thanks to Hailer, Lamor has successfully streamlined its business processes including product management, sales, health and safety, and human resources. But when it came to collaboration, employees were still spending time on sending documents back and forth. As Lamor doesn't plan to build document editing resources into Hailer, switching to Google Workspace alongside Hailer was the solution.

Users now log into Hailer using Google Sign-in. When a team member starts a new project, a folder is automatically generated in Google Drive, allowing them to create and access Google Docs, Sheets and Slides without leaving the app. Centralized file storage enables team members and partners to access and collaborate on key documents. Employees communicate via Gmail, but neverending email loops are a thing of the past.

Staying in touch during the COVID-19 pandemic
Google Workspace has also helped team members navigate COVID-19 with minimal impact on Lamor's processes. During periods of work restrictions, Google Meet and Forms enabled local teams to collaborate effectively while maintaining social distancing. “We used Google Meet just about every day," says Larsen. "We’ve also used Forms to send out questionnaires to our teams throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. It's been a great way to check in with people and create a formal feedback loop when everyone is working from home.”
Working together more intuitively at a global level

Since implementing Google Workspace, the way that the company works together at a global level is more collaborative. “Google Workspace enables us to harmonize the way we work together at a global level, and our whole collaboration process is a lot more intuitive,” says Larsen.
The company is still in the process of transitioning to Google Workspace, and Larsen's main tip is to provide training and support to prepare teams for making the switch. "When people are busy working on projects, it can be tricky to adapt to new tools," he explains. "I would definitely recommend paying attention to training, to make sure people are ready."
Lamor has several major international projects in the pipeline, including a project working with a range of partners to look at how plastic waste from rivers can be collected, converted, and recycled. It's also working on an environmental response center in Saudi Arabia and setting up a waste management facility in Ghana, among others.
As the company’s activity scales, Lamor is looking forward to working with Google Cloud products to generate actionable business insights based on Hailer data. The team is exploring how it can use Google BigQuery to analyze data and Google Data Studio to share insights with their partner network. “The projects we’re taking on are bigger and more demanding.
