Google Workspace Results

  • ~3-4 hours saved per week per employee

  • 80% Google Workspace with Gemini adoption rate across employee use cases

  • 87% of employees using Gemini report increased productivity

Philippine businesses are embracing artificial intelligence at a pace that has caught international attention, with the United Nations identifying the country as an early AI adopter. Globe Telecom exemplifies this momentum, demonstrating how systematic planning and empowering people with the right tools and training translate AI potential into measurable workplace results.

The country's largest telecommunications company has achieved 80% employee adoption of Google Workspace with Gemini. This adoption rate has led to workers saving 3-4 hours on average each week through AI-powered productivity gains. Globe Telecom built this success on its 2013 foundation as the Philippines' first Google Workspace client, positioning it to deploy generative AI across teams serving millions of customers.

Globe Telecom's AI strategy: technology, process, and people

“The ability of employees to discover capabilities and maximize AI use within their workflows — that empowerment is the greatest benefit of Google Workspace with Gemini.” - Francis Pugeda, Director for AI Delivery at Globe Telecom

Globe Telecom's implementation of Google Workspace with Gemini focused on three core considerations before a company-wide rollout. "Our approach was driven by technology, process, and people," says Francis Pugeda, Director for AI Delivery at Globe Telecom.

"In terms of technology, we needed to ensure Gemini was compatible with our existing platform. For processes, we wanted to make sure workflows wouldn't be disrupted. And for people, we had to upskill employees and prepare them for new ways of working."

Globe Telecom began by identifying employees already experimenting with generative AI tools independently. Rather than restricting these activities, the company launched a limited trial program targeting early adopters who could demonstrate the value of AI to their colleagues. "We saw some of our teams were using these tools, and wanted them to do it in a more official capacity," Pugeda says.

A structured launch enabled Globe Telecom's workforce to discover Google Workspace with Gemini's use cases within their own roles. "The ability of employees to discover capabilities and maximize AI use within their workflows — that empowerment is the greatest benefit of Google Workspace with Gemini," Pugeda says.

The approach transformed unofficial AI experimentation into structured organizational learning. Globe Telecom designed comprehensive training covering Gemini functionality across multiple Workspace applications. Sessions focused on practical applications: email composition and refinement in Gmail, content creation and editing in Google Docs, data analysis in Google Sheets, and research capabilities using Google Workspace with Gemini across applications.

The company established a dedicated space in Google Chat where Gemini users could share experiences and practical techniques. That space quickly evolved beyond technical support into a community for creative AI applications. "We use that space to provide updates and give tips on how to use Google Workspace with Gemini more effectively," Pugeda says. "It's become a community where employees can share their experiences and discover new ways to integrate AI into their workflows."

Widespread adoption and hours saved with Gemini

“Since our employees use Google Workspace with Gemini to spend less time on mundane work, time gains trickle down to our customers. We can serve their needs more quickly and make fewer mistakes.” - Francis Pugeda, Director for AI Delivery at Globe Telecom

Globe's methodical rollout resulted in 80% of employees embracing Google Workspace with Gemini across its workforce. Its seen the most productivity gains from team members using Gemini features in Gmail, Google Docs, Sheets, and the Gemini app. "87% of users report being more productive, saving each employee three to four hours a week on average," Pugeda says. These gains have proved to be ongoing as well: "People also report providing consistently higher quality work with fewer errors and less time spent on routine tasks."

The weekly time savings per employee translates to nearly half a workday returned to higher-value work, including customer service improvements, strategic planning, and innovation projects. These productivity gains align with Globe Telecom's "Circle of Happiness" business philosophy, which emphasises delivering superior customer experiences that drive business results. "Since our employees use Google Workspace with Gemini to spend less time on mundane work, time gains trickle down to our customers," Pugeda says. "We can serve their needs more quickly and make fewer mistakes."

Creating custom chatbots built from NotebookLM knowledge bases

“Since we're helping other companies in the country, we should set an example for them. We've achieved real productivity benefits using Google Workspace with Gemini, and it's right to share those learnings with our customers.” - Francis Pugeda, Director for AI Delivery at Globe Telecom

Globe Telecom discovered unexpected applications through employee experimentation. By trialling AI, Globe Telecom created custom AI chatbots using NotebookLM by feeding internal documents into the system.

"We discovered that, by leveraging our sources and information, including Google Drive files we're able to use NotebookLM as a specialized chatbot," Pugeda says "Teams deploy these chatbots across departments, giving employees AI assistants trained on specific processes and documentation while allowing them to get insights from specific information."

This innovation demonstrates how Globe Telecom adapts AI tools beyond their standard applications to solve unique business challenges. The custom chatbots extend AI capabilities across departments, reducing the need for employees to manually search through documentation.

Having Gemini included in all Workspace plans has also eliminated Globe Telecom's license management overhead. "We initially had a complex workflow for assigning Gemini licenses to employees," Pugeda explains. "Having Gemini available to all our employees takes away that administrative task and ensures all of our employees can benefit from its capabilities."

Supporting Philippine AI ambitions

As a telecommunications provider serving enterprise customers nationwide, Globe Telecom sees opportunities to share its AI implementation experience with other Philippine businesses. "Since we're helping other companies in the country, we should set an example for them," Pugeda says. "We've achieved real productivity benefits using Google Workspace with Gemini, and it's right to share those learnings with our customers."

The company's evolution from the Philippines' first Google Workspace client to widespread AI adoption demonstrates how companies can build on strong technological foundations and entrust their people with the skills and tools they need to succeed. Globe Telecom continues tracking AI developments, particularly workspace flows and agent AIs that could automate additional business processes. "We're excited about the possibilities we saw at Google Cloud Next; workspace flows and agentic AIs open up tremendous potential for continuing to better serve our customers," Pugeda says.
