New ways of working with Gemini

Since introducing Gemini for Google Workspace to enterprise organizations, we’ve seen our customers embrace it to forge new ways of working around the globe. Here’s how leaders from Pepperdine UniversityPennymac, and Adore Me are exploring it within their organizations.

Improving accessibility and lesson plans at Pepperdine University

Pepperdine University specializes in strengthening the lives of students through purpose, service, and leadership. Jonathan See, its chief information officer, leads the university’s approach to using technology across its campuses to unify the student experience.

He first introduced Google Workspace to Pepperdine to improve collaboration across groups, communities, and teams. “We used to drive an hour to another campus for a meeting. With Google Meet, we shifted to a virtual-meeting culture,” says See. “My IT team now has more than 100 people spread across the US.”

After a successful shift to a remote-first work environment, See and his team saw a chance to take another technological leap forward with Gemini. “I see gen AI as a great tool for our faculty and students,” says See. “Faculty can create more customized lesson plans; students can use it for idea generation to support their research.”  He’s exploring how to use Gemini to educate students on generative AI literacy before sending them into the workforce.

The teams behind the university’s administrative work are also rapidly adopting Gemini to write meeting minutes and create custom images for Google Slides presentations. “Our Office for Student Accessibility has seen a tremendous benefit in using generative AI,” says See. “Live captioning and translation in Google Meet are closing huge gaps in equity and accessibility by bringing down the language barrier for some of our students.”

Securely working faster in a highly regulated industry with Pennymac

Due to strict regulations and laws, financial services is often seen as an industry associated with slow change, but Pennymac uses Workspace to protect its customers and maintain internal confidentiality while still moving quickly. As one the largest lenders and mortgage servicers in the US, it’s constantly on the lookout for ways to improve its customer experience. Pennymac believes that they can achieve that by investing more into their technology platforms.

The team trusts Workspace to keep its data safe and secure while keeping open lines of communication throughout the organization. Pennymac brought in Gemini to make its day-to-day operations even more efficient. They believe in democratizing Gemini and putting it into the hands of employees across many different departments. The more they can test, the more efficiencies they can find, the faster they can reduce costs, and ultimately pass savings on to their customers.

Pennymac’s HR team has found success using Gemini to create job descriptions as well as getting started on policy and procedure documents. On a more technical level, Pennymac is also testing Gemini in concert with Vertex AI. By drawing on its proprietary data, the company can ask Gemini questions about regulations and best practices to improve the underwriting process.

Cutting out “soul-sucking” work to focus on creative problem-solving at Adore Me

Adore Me launched in 2012 as the first lingerie brand to offer extended sizing across a wide range of styles and categories. As a direct-to-consumer company, it relies heavily on technology to reach its customers. It was already using AI and machine learning extensively to personalize product recommendations and improve the overall customer experience, which put it in a prime position to integrate generative AI into its workflows.

“We saw so much opportunity with generative AI, but we wanted to bring in a solution that would help onboard and educate people. We also needed something that everyone, especially our security team, felt comfortable with,” Ranjan Roy, VP of strategy at Adore Me, explains. “That strategy drove us to Gemini for Google Workspace.”

“When we started rolling out Gemini, we would ask our teammates, ‘What is the most soul-sucking part of your job? What is the part of your job that you hate the most?’ We wanted to focus on reducing that workload,” he says.

For Adore Me’s copywriting team, the most monotonous task was keeping up with hundreds of new product descriptions. The team mapped out a prompt library to help draft descriptions monthly, reducing more than 35 hours of work down to 30 minutes.

“We’ve really embraced Gemini as part of our work culture,” Roy shares. “We've held image generation ‘prompt-offs’ where we came up with a challenge: Two people wrote prompts for Gemini, shared the results, and others voted for their favorites. It’s helped teach more of our users how to effectively use or build on prompts in our existing library to customize their output.”

The Adore Me copywriting team used to regularly produce speaker bios for conferences and webinars. With the company’s ever-expanding prompt library, speakers can now grab a prompt, fill in key points such as work experiences or career highlights, and Gemini does the rest.

“Gemini is doing more than saving us time. It’s creating new value and more ways to serve our customers that we couldn’t have imagined before,” Roy shares.

From bringing down language barriers to ensuring regulatory compliance or transforming monotonous tasks into creative competitions, these three organizations show us that the possibilities with generative AI are endless.
