SIGN UPSnapshot: Understood.org is a leading social impact non-profit that supports people with learning and thinking differences, such as ADHD and dyslexia, so that they can thrive at school, work and in life. Understood reaches more than 20 million people annually with its expert-driven resources, a vast content library, a global podcast network, an app, and more. Learn how Understood uses Google Workspace with Gemini to:
Reduce stress among its employees, of which one-third identify as neurodivergent
Save 10 hours per research project by using Gemini Advanced at gemini.google.com to understand the field and uncover fundraising trends
Personalize outreach emails to donors and partners using Gemini in Gmail to save upwards of 2 hours per day
For Understood.org, information is at the heart of everything the organization does — from research to marketing and donor outreach. Using Gemini, Understood has found multiple ways to work more efficiently, but the benefits extend beyond just time savings. Whether it’s helping dyslexic employees craft better emails or summarizing dense information, “We have seen anecdotally a lot of reduction in stress and an increase in morale and confidence,” says Rahul Rao, Understood’s co-president and CTO.

Rahul Rao, Co-President and Chief Technology Officer at Understood, shares how the organization is transforming the way it works using Workspace with Gemini.
Uncovering trends in learning and thinking differences, fundraising patterns, and more
The researchers at Understood are the organization’s power users — they use Gemini daily to build donor profiles, understand the broader market trends in fundraising, and more.
Nathan Friedman, Co-President and Chief Marketing Officer, says that: “Using Gemini helps the organization customize its fundraising approach to build and maintain strong relationships with donors and partners, all while saving hours of work — the Research Team saves 10 hours per project and the Partnerships Team saves upward of 2 hours a day.”
For example, they can ask Gemini: “What are the latest trends in the fundraising and investment landscape around women’s mental health and neurodiversity?” Asking Gemini to cite its sources helps the team verify their findings quickly before exporting to a Google Doc.
From there, the team can use the latest research to help fundraise in the most effective and efficient ways possible. By tagging the research directly, the Partnerships Team can use Gemini in Gmail to create personalized, relevant messages to partners and donors using the latest information.

Nathan Friedman, Co-President and Chief Marketing Officer of Understood.org, shares an example of how teams prompt Gemini Advanced and Gemini in Gmail.
By embracing the power of generative AI, Understood.org has not only streamlined their workflows but has also fostered a more positive and confident work environment so that its employees – and by extension, the community they serve – can thrive.
