How to use the Salesforce extension for Gemini in Gmail

The new Salesforce extension for Gemini in Gmail can help sellers spend more time on strategic work and building customer relationships, and less time on administrative tasks. It integrates Salesforce data directly into Gemini in Workspace, eliminating the need to constantly switch between your inbox and Salesforce database to manage reaching your prospects. With the extension now generally available, we want to share a few ways you can use it to streamline how you work:

  1. Install the Salesforce extension

  2. Generate insights on a sales inquiry

  3. Create new Salesforce leads in Gmail

  4. Tailor responses to inbound emails using Salesforce data

  5. Update Salesforce opportunities from Gmail

Install the Salesforce extension

To start using the Salesforce for Gemini extension, first install the extension from the Google Workspace Marketplace; you’ll need a paid Google Workspace account and Salesforce Sales Cloud access. If the install button is greyed out, contact your Google Workspace administrator to add the extension to your allowlist.

Grant Salesforce for Gemini access to your Google Workspace account data by clicking "Continue". Finally, link your Google Workspace account to your Salesforce Sales Cloud account by logging in with your Salesforce credentials.

Generate insights on a sales inquiry

Once the extension is activated, Gemini can automatically detect when an email is from an interested prospect. Select the “Take action on this sales inquiry” nudge above your email, and Gemini will generate a sales brief based on the email, highlighting purchase intent and pain points.

Click on “Research this company” to discover key insights like the company size, CEO, and focus.

Create new Salesforce leads in Gmail

Now that you know a little more about this prospect, you can add them as a lead to your salesforce database by typing “Track this lead in Salesforce” in the Gemini prompt bar, or by selecting the option from the list of available actions.

Gemini will extract the relevant data from the email and populate it in a lead card.

From there, you can edit the lead details then save it to Salesforce.

Use Gemini to tailor responses to inbound emails

You can use Gemini to draft a response to your prospect based on its understanding of their potential needs and by pulling in relevant data from Salesforce such as promotion and pricing data.

To draft a reply, simply type “Draft a reply with Salesforce info” or select it from the list of available actions.

Update Salesforce opportunities from Gmail

Communicating back and forth with your prospect while constantly maintaining your Salesforce opportunity can be cumbersome, but Gemini makes it possible to keep an opportunity up-to-date without leaving Gmail.

Once you select the helpful nudge at the top of your email, Gemini automatically identifies that the contact from this email exists in a Salesforce opportunity. Then all you have to do is instruct Gemini to add your email thread to the corresponding Salesforce opportunity, making it easy to ensure that your Salesforce opportunity is always up to date!
