SIGN UPAs we’ve long held, keeping users in control of their data is a bedrock principle for us. It informs how we design our products — with privacy and security at the forefront, and with tools that give users choice and control over their data.
To that end, we are updating our smart feature settings for Google Workspace to give users even more granular control over their data. Put simply, this update turns an existing control into two distinct settings that govern different product experiences. These changes will be rolling out soon across the globe.
To be clear: these updates give users more choice and control over their data, and do not alter our underlying data handling practices or our robust privacy commitments. Additionally, these updated privacy settings will not impact your existing control over smart features in Gmail, Meet, and Chat. The bottom line is that with these updates, smart feature settings are more streamlined and easier to understand, empowering you to make more precise decisions over which smart features to use.
NEW: Google Workspace smart features settings with more granular user controls
Smart feature settings govern the degree of personalization a user wants, specifically how a user’s Workspace data may be used to personalize Workspace and other Google products. Turning on these features gives users a richer experience, allowing them to do everything from using Gemini in Workspace to reference Drive files right from Gmail, automatically adding events such as flights from Gmail to Calendar, or compiling loyalty cards and tickets from their inbox into Google Wallet, and more.
The refreshed settings will begin to roll out soon, and you’ll be able to access them through the settings menu in Gmail, Drive, Chat, and Meet. Stay tuned to the Help Center for more details.
