With all due respect to the great dentists out there, a dental chair isn’t anyone’s favorite place to be. But if you care for the health of your teeth, there’s just no way around it. And if you want to straighten your smile or fix your bite problems with additional treatment, you need to steel yourself for even more time under the bright lights of the dentist’s surgery—or do you?
is an innovative orthodontics chain that specializes in invisible and removable aligners — personalized braces that gradually straighten the teeth. While in-person visits with the clinic’s experienced team of orthodontists are a crucial component of treatment, Impress enriches the patient experience with digital supervision through its own dedicated app.
Each treatment begins with a comprehensive in-clinic diagnosis conducted by an experienced orthodontist, including 3D X-rays and 3D scans to detect previous problems. Next, patients receive their aligners along with their individual treatment plan and a 3D simulation prepared by their orthodontist. To ensure the excellence of treatment, everything is reviewed by two other experienced orthodontists. Patients can then use the Impress app to continuously check-up with the medical team, while avoiding unnecessary routine visits that would be required in traditional clinics. With daily access to an experienced medical team, digital guidance, and the option of in-person visits, Impress reimagines the orthodontics experience for the modern world.

Ramping up data security for digital dentistry

The more digital dental clinics become, the more digital privacy they require. That’s why safeguarding patient data is crucial for Impress, and was a key factor when it came to the selection of a cloud provider. While Impress had used certain Google Workspace tools, such as , in the past, the decision to roll out the entire suite of programs enabled the company to strengthen its security posture while improving the employee experience.

Building a more productive hybrid work environment

While the company-wide rollout of the solutions is still ongoing, around 1,100 employees are already using different Google Workspace tools in their day-to-day lives. Google Meet has long been the primary means of video conferencing at Impress, and enables employees to get work done more effectively in hybrid environments. Impress has replaced its previous third-party messaging app with , which reduces costs and allows employees to benefit from its integrations.
"It’s great that all the Google Workspace solutions integrate with each other, because our employees can easily arrange meetings from Google Chat," says Tashbenbetov. "There are lots of other small features that boost our productivity, such as the noise canceling feature of Google Meet, which makes our meetings a lot more pleasant."
Safeguarding data with fine-grained access permissions
Impress now has unlimited storage space on Google Drive, and the ability to share files hassle-free across the company. "With shared drives, we can securely store, search, and share many different files, such as , , or , as well as videos and images," says Tashbenbetov. "We have fine-grained control over user permissions, and detailed activity logs for each file and service, strengthening our compliance framework."
Thanks to shared drives, Impress can better protect company data when people depart. "We used to have to manually transfer data when people left our company," says Tashbenbetov. "Today, everything is owned by the team, which helps us to safeguard our corporate data."
Rounding out the security benefits, Google Workspace also helps Impress to detect suspicious logins, and take the necessary steps in case of more serious incidents. For example, Tashbenbetov and his team can block selected devices and delete data remotely, or suspend users while retaining the account’s corporate data, in case that’s necessary for legal proceedings. "We don’t want to wait for anything serious to happen, and implement a solution after the fact," says Tashbenbetov. "With Google Workspace, we’re prepared for any eventuality."
Strengthening team cohesion with Groups for Business
Impress consists of many different teams. Besides the medical, IT, marketing, finance, and product teams, there’s also the expansion team, which is in charge of the company’s partners and flagship clients, and the video team, which creates 3D simulations of individual patients’ dental journeys. All these teams have their own, unique IT demands, but introducing third-party ticketing systems to each team would be time-consuming and expensive.
Instead, the teams have begun to leverage the Groups for Business tool, which maps specific email IDs to a group composed of many individual team members. Because every group member can read and reply to incoming emails, and mark them as complete, this helps to streamline team-wide communication. "For a long time, we had to choose between implementing complicated ticketing systems, or having no convenient way to centrally manage and assign tasks between different team members," says Tashbenbetov. "With Groups for Business, Google Workspace offers a great middle-ground that’s intuitive for our employees and strengthens team cohesion."
Once Google Workspace is fully implemented, Tashbenbetov wants to go a step further and use the no-code platform to create custom applications. "Many of our teams often need to query specific things," says Tashbenbetov. "For example, our sales team might need to find specific customer-related information. With AppSheets, we can build personalized apps for specific departments that seamlessly integrate with our Google Workspace solutions."
Innovating the orthodontics journey
Because Impress is all about giving orthodontics patients the best service and experience without interfering with their way of life, the company is using Google Workspace to improve the customer journey, as well. For example, customer-facing teams have started using Google Meet to schedule follow-up calls with patients.
